This story is one of those spooky, atmospheric ones where you’re not entirely sure what’s going on, but there seems to be magic involved. Except it’s set on an abandoned planetoid, for no reason I can determine. There’s a spooky house with a couple of spooky old ladies, who want to take Mel into a spooky forest filled with spooky ghosts so she can meet the spooky monster from the title and have her wish granted. Except of course the Doctor wants to talk to the ghosts, who are the real victims here. Oddly, the story is only three parts, but it feels like it takes forever to get going, presumably to build the spooky suspense. The resolution is annoyingly talky, and doesn’t seem to amount to much. Paul Magrs is usually good with the surreal stories, but this one doesn’t seem to click.
