If you’re setting up a box set with old Doctors and new-series monsters, then the only thing better than getting Colin Baker to trade words with a Carrionite is to get him to speak Judoonese...and why not in a courtroom, while we’re at it? That’s pretty much the extent of what’s going on in this story, where the rest of the plot isn’t all that important, but does feature an unusually enlightened Judoon making long speeches and reciting poetry, so full credit to Nick Briggs for pulling that off. The Doctor seems to be over his distaste for courtrooms by this point, and if anything, most of his trickery in the second half of the story is a bit too smug, because everything goes according to his plan, which is pretty rare for him. It may not be the best of the CDNM’s, but it’s a good one.
