The second CDNM story with the Sixth Doctor seems to come before the first, because the Trial seems to be still very much on his mind. The Doctor encounters a 1980s English town that’s troubled by witches, in this case, Carrionites from “The Shakespeare Code.” Unusually for these CDNM stories, the Doctor has heard of Carrionites, but has never encountered any before. These Carrionites, however, seem to remember the Tenth Doctor and their other encounter. There’s even a sly reference to the Harry Potter series. The Doctor meets a potential companion, who seems to foreshadow Flip and other young women who don’t take the Doctor seriously, but she’s unable to come along. Fortunately, Carrionites are affected by words, and almost no Doctor has as much of a command of verbiage as the Sixth, but his lack of experience with magic nearly does him in. On the whole, this is one of the better CDNM stories.
