Together in Eclectic Dreams

Classic Doctors, New Monsters #3.3
Released: 28 July 2022
Listened: 8/6/22
For the first time in this particular CDNM set, there’s an actual “new monster,” this time the Dream Crabs from “Last Christmas.” That means there’s going to be a lot of dream sequences and misdirection, and Roy Gill is up to the challenge. The Doctor has another new companion in this one, Mari Yoshida, played by Susan Hingley, who is of Japanese descent, so everybody gets their pronunciations right, which is nice. Mari is a nice match for the Sixth Doctor; she’s forthright, possibly even aggressive, and definitely doesn’t put up with being told what to do. However, she’s not actually with the Doctor a whole lot, so we can’t see if they clash much. The story itself involves dreams, layers of dreams, and things that come get you in dreams, much like “Last Christmas,” so it’s foolish to say more than that. There is, however, a surprise appearance by a character you may not have been expecting. It’s all satisfyingly twisty, which is a challenge nicely met.
