The War Doctor Adventures

This set of stories, starring Sir John Hurt, come toward the end of the War Doctor’s tenure, thus relieving Sir John of the burden of trying to sound like his younger self. It’s one of the first instances of Big Finish stepping into the modern series, and it’s almost tentative at times. It clearly wasn’t planned as a long arc of four boxes, as some other stories are. In fact, they were just starting to get rolling when it was cut off, so there isn’t much closure or direct connection to “The Day of the Doctor.” The other thing that’s lacking is a sense of atrocity. We’re told that the War Doctor did things so terrible that his other regenerations disowned him, but there’s little evidence of that here.
