This is pretty much the proper Act 2, in which our folks figure out what’s going on. (Without Sam, because conservation of characters.) The good guys are pretty sure that Devlin’s company is the problem, but they need hard evidence. So Josh goes undercover at Devlin. Meanwhile, Jacqui is becoming steadily more irritated by the bits she’s been able to work out, but without evidence, her producers won’t let her on the air, so she infiltrates Devlin too. Josh breaks cover to rescue her, to no avail, as Jacqui and Kate are both captured. Jacqui does a lot of screaming in this episode. Admittedly, she’s not trained for any of this, but her reactions go beyond panic toward hysteria. Kate, on the other hand, is cool and collected at all times. And Josh isn’t much of an undercover agent, unfortunately. Nick Briggs plays a put-upon TV news presenter, and while it’s clearly Nick, he does a good job. The 3-D printers finally print some Autons, which is the image we’ve been waiting for this whole box, but it does seem a bit slow as invasions go. There’s a pretty good cliffhanger that will have ramifications for quite a while.
