Captain Jack Harkness

Captain Jack Harkness is a special case when it comes to companion status. He’s technically not a TARDIS traveler for very long, just from “The Doctor Dances” to “The Parting of the Ways,” with a return engagement from “Utopia” to “Last of the Time Lords,” and a couple of cameos during the Jodie Whittaker era. However, he was the lead character in every series of Torchwood, and features prominently in the Torchwood audios as well. He’s also more-or-less immortal, and often has a vortex manipulator, so he could feasibly turn up anywhere and anywhen. In 2017, Big Finish decided to do a boxed set about Jack, since John Barrowman was available, and I suspect the BBC considered the character finished at that point. That eventually led to two more sets. I don’t do the Torchwood material, and I ignored the Captain Jack series for some time, but there was a sale, so I picked up the first boxed set.
