This story is from River Song's fifth series, where she met a different version of the Master in each story, out of order to her personal chronology and the Master's. This time, it's the Bruce Master's turn. This was Eric Roberts' first appearance as the Master for Big Finish, which allowed the story to include a twist, as River (and any listeners who didn't look at the cover), didn't know who he is. There's also an explanation of how the Master survived the events of The TV Movie, which isn't strictly necessary, but it also doesn't hurt.
