Even though Big Finish had already published some stories with David Tennant by the time this was recorded, they went ahead with their plans to make narrated “chronicles” stories with the Ninth through Twelfth Doctors. They’d tapped Jacob Dudman because of his amazing Eleventh Doctor impression, and he does a half-decent Tenth as well, with the mannerisms down perfectly, but the voice itself sounds a touch younger. It’s different enough from his narrator voice to make a nice contrast. This is very much a Series-2-type story, with the Doctor and Rose arriving at a resort planet to discover that something’s not right. The guests are being fed something addictive that makes them gorge themselves. If you guessed the Slitheen are involved, you’d be right. It’s kind of nice to see the Slitheen with the Tenth Doctor, but it’s equally nice to see that while they acknowledge the use of vinegar as a weapon, they’re not running around killing Slitheen with it, which didn’t really sit right. It’s fun, it’s zippy, and it doesn’t take itself very seriously, making it a very nice placement in this series.
