The trek through the Divergent Universe continues, with another long, slow story. This time the crew is on a world that recently had a nuclear war that destroyed most of the population. The only remaining nation is led by a ruler who’s clearly insane, or self-deluded to the point where it makes no difference (and boy does that resonate in 2021). It looks like there’s supposed to be something deeper going on here, with characters who appear to come and go like ghosts, and lots of talk about being “in touch with the planet,” but the whole turns out to be less than the sum of its parts, and the ending is rather disappointing. Once again, there isn’t any villain, just abstract forces. Also once again, C’rizz’s pacificism is taking a beating.
