The Doctor, Anya, and Mark are still looking for time-travel tech to help the Doctor get back where he belongs. They’re trying to track down a temporal scientist named Arborecc, which leads them to an SSS station that houses both medical facilities and research labs. Except this is one of those human outposts where they’re trying anything they can to defeat the Daleks, no matter how unethical, or how much it costs in human lives. The key element of this story is to put the Doctor through the wringer, emotionally, and at that it succeeds. He’s back on the wrong side of the Time War, and the Daleks are once again taking away things that are important to him. Elsewhere, we get to see an old friend of Mark’s, surprising everybody with the idea that Mark has old friends, even one who has a crush on him. Plus we get Dalek voices by a bunch of actors who aren’t Nick Briggs, which is an unusual twist.
