The Day Before They Came

The Eleventh Doctor Chronicles #2.2

Another small-scale story, fitting for this period where the Doctor has deleted himself from the historical record, and is trying to keep a low profile. It takes place entirely within a boring seaside town where an alien scout has accidentally invaded, and someone else is watching out for alien activity. It’s set in 1986, and is very of its time, with a video arcade featuring appropriate sound effects. The Doctor sounds extremely Doctor-y in this one, with his random asides all over the place, and Jake Dudman handles that perfectly. Daniel Blythe has written prose Doctor Who before, but this is his first time in audio, and he seems to have adjusted quite well. There’s a twist, but not an overly elaborate one. The overall impression of the story is that it’s “nice.”
