The third and final crossover (even the Doctor is starting to think this is odd) unites the Sixth and Tenth Doctors, and sets them up against Weeping Angels. Writer Lisa McMullin tosses out several Angel-related high concepts, like what would happen if an Angel feasted on a Time Lord with several regenerations left (the Angel gets very powerful and reproduces), or what would happen if the Angels came across a planet where the natives had no sense of sight (buffet, is what happens). Much like the previous story, the Doctors don’t waste any time establishing their respective identities and get right to business. However, unlike the last story, any respect between the two is grudging. The Sixth Doctor is fairly spikey, criticizing both the Tenth Doctor’s hyper-verbosity, and his taste in interior decorating. For the Tenth Doctor’s part, the Sixth Doctor’s coat is way too easy of a target. However, he does suggest the Doctor might look better in blue, which the Sixth Doctor hadn’t considered yet, indicating this is probably early in his timeline. Lisa McMullin deserves praise for dealing with the Angels on audio, which is no mean trick, but she pulls it off without any clunky dialog. She also doesn’t spend too much time trying to explain sight and color to the sightless characters, although it does pop up when least expected. On the whole, the clever storytelling makes up for a lack of Doctory banter, which makes this better than “The Gates of Hell,” but not as good as “Out of Time.”
