The Window on the Moor

The Ninth Doctor Chronicles

The Ninth Doctor Chronicles #1.2

Released: 4 May 2017

We’re now back to Nick Briggs-narrated stories, including his somewhat congested Ninth Doctor. However, this is the earliest audio appearance of Rose (in production order), sorta-kinda. This story, by Una McCormack, has a “doomed lovers” feel straight out of Wuthering Heights, intentionally. The Doctor and Rose land in a city in the midst of a civil war, where a prince has overthrown the ruling duke, and anybody who complains gets locked up in a glass prison. The Doctor and Rose are separated almost immediately, and because this is a story, bump into the Duchess and the Duke respectively. The prison, made of intelligent glass of some kind, is an interesting image, as are the glass beasts that the prince uses. The city also features a dimensional window onto an English moor in the early 19th century, where a girl named Emily helps out visitors. It’s not the strongest story, but it does evoke a sense of place quite well.
