Dalek Universe #1.3
Released: 14 April 2021

Should we see some Daleks in this Dalek Universe event? Nah, have some Mechonoids instead. They translate remarkably well to audio, where their habit of spitting out random numbers and words makes them sound just as awkward as their big round bodies look. They’re implacable, though, as good robot menaces always are, which is useful in this story, as they’re helping to terraform Neptune. The story is mostly about putting Anya through the wringer, though, as we find out rather a lot about her past, and meet her grandfather Merrick. We learn that her mother was killed by Daleks while Anya was still young, and she blames her grandfather for not saving her. So of course the Doctor reveals (to Merrick, not Anya) that he knew Brett and Sara, but not how they died. Although Anya’s venom causes both the Doctor and the listener to think that Merrick has been unfairly accused, it’s a good bit more complicated than that. The story ends on another cliffhanger, because this isn’t really three boxed sets as much as it’s a nine-part story.
