With all respect to Jacob Dudman, this is the real deal. David Tennant, Billie Piper, Camille Coduri, and a Series 2 feel. John Dorney is known for his time-twisting stories, but this time, he brings the funny. Jackie calls Rose and the Doctor back to Earth to thwart an alien invasion in…Norwich. And nowhere else. And the invaders aren’t really too impressive, although they are a legitimate threat. Of course, there’s more going on here, and the Doctor doesn’t like it. The lightheartedness of the story is a nice fit for early Series 2, and the Doctor and Rose are operating quite well as a team, and individually. Even Jackie is more competent than last time we saw her, and she gets to go to space for the first time. There’s even a brief reflection on the price of fame, and why some people are willing to pay it anyway, which is kinda sad. But not for long, because that’s not what these stories are about. And it wouldn’t be Series 2 without a brief mention of Torchwood. I’m a fan of this story because it’s one that could only be told in modern Who.
