The primary challenge for a set like this is how to keep Christina as a thief, while still making her a character the audience wants to root for? This story by John Dorney takes two approaches: First, make the victim someone who totally deserves to get robbed, and preferably embarrassed at the same time. Second, have somebody frame Christina for a worse crime (murder), and require her to use her skills to get out of it. Plus, it doesn’t hurt if the setting is on the French Riviera, and Christina is being fabulous at everyone around her. There’s a really snazzy car chase (tricky to do on audio), the mark is an upper-class twit, and Interpol is involved, so you’re pretty much hitting all the targets. Christina is in her element here, and it shows. Dorney stories are known for timey-wimey twists. There’s no time travel this time around, but there is a good twist that I didn’t really see coming because I underestimated him. As a result, I wasn’t terribly pleased with the story at first, until suddenly I was very pleased indeed. UNIT has only a small presence in this story, but it seeds the idea that Sam Bishop knows who Christina is.
