While aiming for the Swinging 60s, the TARDIS ends up in the Great Fog of 1952. Which is an event that has to happen, but an invasion of microscopic aliens that feed on pollution is something the Doctor can stop. Apparently, most of the cast learned about this historic event from the same episode of The Crown where I learned about it, which seems a bit sad since I’m not English. There’s a lot of running around and shouting, even by the Tenth Doctor’s standards, and there’s a bunch of nicely drawn secondary characters, half of whom end up dead, and two of whom are a gay couple, which is a no-go in 1952. A bit of guest-casting in this one with Lauren Cornelius, who will later play companion Dodo Chaplet. Also, Big Finish regulars Helen Goldwyn and Stephen Critchlow have minor parts. I think this one impacts a lot of the cast and crew differently than it does me, because of the closeness they feel to London in the 50s. And that’s going to be a wrap for Catherine Tate in this project.
