The Doctor is alone at this point, presumably leaving Amy and Rory alone for a bit. He does, however, crash at the Maldovarium, because Simon Fisher-Becker (Dorium Maldovar) is the guest star for this story. This isn’t the first time he’s met Dorium, but it may be the second, because the Doctor has a bar tab, plus damages from the crash. Dorium convinces him to pay off the debt by ridding him of the “Beacon People,” natives who inhabit the planetoid the Maldovarium sits on, and who are digging it up piece by piece. Oddly, this all forms a big callback to “Tales of New Earth,” with the Lux involved. Probably. Or maybe not. The Doctor is written as extremely Eleventh Doctory in this one, full of non sequiturs and random observations, most of which seem to be designed to irritate Dorium. It’s a little hard to see how this ends up with Dorium owing the Doctor a big favor, but maybe that’s not this time.
