We pick up with Jenny some time after “The Doctor’s Daughter,” we assume, in that she has a spaceship, but still doesn’t have a ton of knowledge about the universe. We’ll learn that Jenny is awfully hard on spaceships, but always seems to find one when she needs it. Unfortunately, she bumps into the con-man Garundel (from “Black & White” and “Starlight Robbery”), and innocents are normally easy to run a con on. Jenny is remarkably good at improvising, and acquires another ship, but this one comes with a passenger, a cryo-frozen young man with no memories, so Jenny names him Noah. He’s played by Sean Biggerstaff, one of my favorite Big Finish guest voices. It seems a little odd to have a character who knows even less about the universe than Jenny, but in the world of audio, she needs a companion to explain things to. However, Garundel isn’t the only thing Jenny’s got to worry about; there’s also a cyborg bounty hunter after her, the Colt 5000, played rather incongruously by Sian Phillips. Where the Doctor resolves problems by doing something clever and sciency, Jenny seems to do things by instinct. I’m not sure what that says about Time Lord genetics, but from a storytelling standpoint, somebody needs to fill the Doctor’s spot, so Jenny is it. Too much Garundel isn’t a good thing, but he hasn’t turned up too often, so this is pretty much fine.
