This one, however, is straight-up comedy from James Kettle, who’s a comedy writer, so it works pretty well. It’s a Wodehouse send-up, which is always good fun. London, 1920s, gentlemen’s clubs, and all the gentlemen are falling in love with…giant flowers. So the Doctor sets himself up as a valet for one of the last gentlemen standing. Of course, this is the Ninth Doctor, who really has no time for class differences, so his attempt to act like a valet…never really gets off the ground at all. And of course we’ve got to toss in some gender-bending and mistaken identity, because why not? On the whole, it’s very funny, and would be the standout in a different set.
