The Thirteenth Doctor

The Thirteenth Doctor marked a distinct change from what had gone before. Most obviously, the Doctor was played by a woman for the first time, Jodie Whittaker. We also saw three companions in the TARDIS for the first time in the modern series. Even more interesting, one of them was a grandfather. Showrunner Steven Moffat exited as well, resulting in a full turnover of everybody in front of and behind the camera. Unfortunately, although Chris Chibnall’s era had a ton of potential, I think it left something to be desired. The writing wasn’t as strong as in previous seasons, and the shorter seasons (down to 10 episodes initially) left less time for us to get to know most of the characters, including the Doctor. The pandemic shortened Series 13 even more, and left us with some big mysteries with the “Timeless Child” reveal. Unlike many modern-era Doctors, not only was Jodie willing to return, along with Mandip Gill, but Jo Martin’s Fugitive Doctor and Sacha Dhawan’s Master also returned for series of their own.
