The Twelfth Doctor and Bill

And then there was Bill Potts. Moffat finally introduced a traditional companion, rather than a huge mystery in the shape of a person. Bill has a humble background, but a fierce curiosity and desire to learn, which causes the Doctor to take her on as a student. Having a traditional mentor / learner relationship is good for this Doctor, as it’s a role he falls into naturally. Having a consistent home base he keeps returning to also allows Bill to have her own life, which is a benefit to her. Of course, Nardole is around, always nagging him about Missy in the basement, but you can’t have everything. This series is fairly recent, so no one involved has done Big Finish yet, meaning the only inserts are a couple of audiobooks.
