The Evolving Dead

The Eleventh Doctor Chronicles #2

The Eleventh Doctor Chronicles #2.1

Released: 16 September 2021

Listened: 12/20/22

Unlike previous Chronicles sets, which jump all over the Doctor’s timeline, this second set of Eleventh Doctor Chronicles takes place all in a row, in the gap between Series 6 and Series 7. They’re also closer to full-cast than previous Chronicles, which only had two actors. In this case, the Doctor is traveling sans companion, which means he has to talk to himself more often than usual, except for the Eleventh Doctor, it doesn’t really seem out of character. He lands on a space station where the whole crew is dead, and has become nanobot-infested zombies. Including a couple who are unusually talkative and clever, for zombies. Writer Doris V Sutherland is relatively new to Big Finish, and she crafts a sort of small-scale story here, definitely base-under-seige. It’s a little unclear why the zombies are hungry for human flesh here, or exactly how their biology works, but that doesn’t matter, so long as there are groaning shamblers about. I think the Doctor is a bit more ruthless in dealing with a sentient AI than he would be in other stories, but he does go back and forth on those.
