In this one, AK Benedict takes us to a very strange parallel world that’s somewhat obsessed with death and the trappings thereof. That seems to be a long-term cultural thing, but more recently, this world’s Pete Tyler has come up with a way to harness minds after death and plant them inside machines in the place of processors. Which is pretty horrible on the face of it, but in this death-obsessed culture, maybe not such a taboo? Regardless, the “pretty horrible” turns up right as Rose and Pete zap in. Why Pete is the traveler and Clive the controller this time, nobody says. Oddly, this story isn’t quite as gloomy as the last two, and Rose and Pete leave thinking they’ve made a difference, but whether they really have remains to be seen.
