The Tenth Doctor Chronicles #1.2

Released: 18 April 2018

Listened: 10/22/22

The second entry in the Tenth Doctor Chronicles series, with Jacob Dudman again playing the Doctor, backed up by John Culshaw, so between the two of them, they manage quite a few characters, mostly aliens, although Culshaw does a handful of different American accents pretty well, especially by Big Finish standards. The story itself is kind of standard, with the Doctor and Martha landing on one of those time-tourism ships that never seems to know what they’re actually doing. Unfortunately, there’s also a fungal infection on board, and the Doctor just leaves Martha to deal with that while he goes off to poke at the engines. But because Martha is unbelievably awesome, she manages to use a futuristic medical kit to cure a bunch of aliens she’s never seen before of a fungal infection she’s never seen before, and is mutating anyway because of exposure to temporal radiation. True to Series 3, especially this part of it, the pacing kicks in from the start and never really lets up. Which is good, because a fungus doesn’t make for a complex bad guy. It probably would’ve looked hokey on TV, so audio is a great place for it. It slots quite nicely into this spot, but doesn’t really stand out.
