This particular Short Trip had a number of unusual features at the time of its release (2017): It was a two-part story told over two releases, it had two narrators, Trevor Baxter and Christopher Benjamin, and it was told in the style of a Companion Chronicle, with Jago and Litefoot each recounting a part of the story, experienced from their own perspective. Most of all, though, it featured the Tenth and Eleventh Doctors, although not together. The Tenth Doctor, during his “farewell tour” at the very end of “The End of Time,” encounters George Litefoot on Minos. Whereas the Eleventh Doctor visits Henry Gordon Jago at the New Regency theater. Most of the story is honestly setup, told in the rather wordy style of Jago & Litefoot, as Litefoot prepares to relate the story to a scientific club and Jago interferes, with the intent of spicing up the story. Even within the flashback, it takes a while to get going, mostly making the point that Jago & Litefoot were bored, not having bumped into any aliens in a while. Once it finally picks up speed, it stops on a cliffhanger. Two cliffhangers, really. It’s hard to call this one a Tenth Doctor story and the other an Eleventh, because it’s really two stories told in parallel, but I’m choosing to do it this way because I can. Which means this is more or less it for the Tenth Doctor in this project, but as we all know, he doesn’t want to go.
